Gims

Gims achieved widespread recognition as a member of the influential hip hop group Sexion d’Assaut, which he co-founded as Prototype 3015 in 2002. Their album ‘L’École des points vitaux’ (2010) sold over 400,000 copies, followed by ‘L’Apogée’ (2012), which sold upwards of 700,000 copies. Gims launched his solo career in 2013 with the album ‘Subliminal,’ which rapidly achieved double diamond disc status with over 1 million sales. This debut solo effort featured international hit singles such as ‘J’me tire’ and ‘Bella,’ firmly establishing him as a significant solo artist.

He consistently evolved his sound, incorporating elements of pop rap, hip hop, afropop, and R&B, maintaining a strong presence in the music industry. Building on this success, Gims founded his own record label, Monstre Marin Corporation, in 2013, signing various artists before its operations concluded in 2020. His subsequent solo albums, ‘Mon cœur avait raison’ (2015) and ‘Ceinture noire’ (2018), further cemented his status, with ‘Ceinture noire’ also achieving double diamond certification. This album notably featured collaborations with international artists like Maluma and Sting.

Beyond music, Gims has ventured into other creative fields, including launching his clothing brand Vortex Vx and co-authoring the manga ‘Devil’s Relics’ in 2018. In 2024, Gims spearheaded the ‘Solidarité Congo’ concert at the prestigious Accor Arena, an initiative dedicated to supporting child victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo, underscoring his profound philanthropic commitment. The same year, he released his EP ‘Le Nord se souvient,’ showcasing his continued musical innovation and versatility. Gims remains a prominent cultural figure, actively engaging in diverse creative and humanitarian efforts, solidifying his multifaceted influence across music, media, and social impact.
