Hairball took root in Minneapolis, where a crew of seasoned rock players decided a cover band could be something far bigger than a bar gig. From the start, the group treated every performance as a full-scale arena production, building a reputation in the Midwest before word spread and bookings began taking them across the country.
Today, vocalists Kris Vox, Dave Moody, and Patrick Stone front the band through a 2+ hour homage to arena royalty — KISS, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey, and Aerosmith — with the stage transforming into a new rock concert countless times a night. The engine room features HBK on electric bass, Billy on drums, and Happy on lead guitar, players who have spent decades nailing the most memorable licks in rock and roll.
In 2025, Hairball celebrates its 25th year of performing for hundreds of thousands of fans across the United States, with recent stops including the Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa, on December 8th. Moody, who spent three years with the band and previously toured the world as Billy Ray Cyrus’ bassist, channels Gene Simmons on stage after crediting KISS as his musical gurus. The band keeps each year’s show fresh by rotating in characters fans haven’t seen in years, and has stated ambitions to take the act global.
Offstage, Hairball treats its fans as part of the show, from pre-show meet and greets to time at the merch booth, serving audiences from age 10 to 100 with the same full-throttle party every night.
