Indigo De Souza was born on July 1, 1997, in Danbury, Connecticut, and spent her early childhood there before moving to Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Her artistic upbringing, influenced by her artist mother, Kimberly Oberhammer, fostered her creative talents from a young age. De Souza began writing music at nine and started self-producing her recordings in 2016. She gained initial recognition with the EPs “Boys” and “Don’t Cry Just Do” in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Her debut full-length album, “I Love My Mom,” self-released in 2018, caught the attention of Saddle Creek Records, which re-released the album in 2021, marking a significant step in her career.
De Souza continued to build her discography with “Any Shape You Take,” released in August 2021, and her third album, “All of This Will End,” in April 2023. These albums solidified her reputation for crafting deeply personal songs that explore themes of disappointment, relationship challenges, and mortality with candid lyrics and emotional vocals. Her work has been lauded by publications such as Pitchfork, The New York Times, and The New Yorker. In addition to her musical endeavors, De Souza is a visual artist, with her mother’s artwork gracing her album covers, and she incorporates her own drawings and mantras into her merchandise, reflecting a commitment to authentic self-expression across various creative mediums.
Her career includes extensive touring, both domestically and internationally, with notable performances at venues like Thalia Hall, Union Transfer, Webster Hall, and international festivals like Pitchfork Paris and Pitchfork London. De Souza has expressed a dedication to maintaining authenticity in her artistic output and has taken an active role in the creative direction of her music videos and merchandise. She values collaboration with her band, particularly guitarist Dexter Webb, and co-produced her album “All of This Will End.” Her upcoming album, “Precipice,” is scheduled for release in July 2025 under Loma Vista Recordings, showcasing her continued evolution as an artist.
