About

John Francis Bongiovi Jr., known professionally as Jon Bon Jovi, was born on March 2, 1962, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. His musical journey began early, forming his first band Raze at 13 and later Atlantic City Expressway with future Bon Jovi bandmate David Bryan. He performed in various local bands throughout his teens, including John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones, playing at clubs and opening for established acts like Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. A pivotal moment came while working at Power Station Studios, co-owned by his cousin Tony Bongiovi, where he made his first professional recording singing on a Christmas album. In 1983, his song “Runaway” gained local radio airplay, leading him to assemble what would become the band Bon Jovi.

With David Bryan, Alec John Such, Tico Torres, and Richie Sambora, the band Bon Jovi released its self-titled debut album in 1984. The band achieved massive global success with their third album, “Slippery When Wet” (1986), which featured chart-topping singles “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer.” Their subsequent album, “New Jersey” (1988), also produced multiple Top 10 hits. Building on this momentum, Bon Jovi continued to release successful albums like “Keep the Faith” (1992) and “Crush” (2000), which introduced them to newer audiences with hits such as “It’s My Life.” The band has sold over 130 million records worldwide, performed thousands of concerts, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

Beyond his band, Jon Bon Jovi released two solo albums: “Blaze of Glory” (1990), which yielded a number-one hit and received Golden Globe and Grammy nominations, and “Destination Anywhere” (1997), accompanied by a film. He also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as “Moonlight and Valentino” and “Pay It Forward,” and television series like “Sex and the City” and “Ally McBeal.” A dedicated philanthropist, he founded the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation in 2006, addressing poverty and homelessness through initiatives like the JBJ Soul Kitchen restaurants, where patrons can pay for meals or volunteer their time. In 2024, he also opened JBJ’s Nashville, a rooftop restaurant and bar in Nashville, Tennessee. He has also been involved in political activism, touring for political candidates and serving on the White House Council for Community Solutions.
