About

A Thousand Horses formed in 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee, bringing together Michael Hobby (lead vocals), Bill Satcher (lead guitar), Graham DeLoach (bass and vocals), and Zach Brown (guitar, vocals). The band’s early artistic development began with Hobby and Satcher writing songs in Newberry, South Carolina, at age 15. The addition of DeLoach from Savannah, Georgia, and Brown from Atlanta solidified the group. Their debut EP, also titled “A Thousand Horses,” was released in 2010 under Interscope Records, recorded in six days with producer Dave Cobb. This early work included the song “Suicide Eyes,” which was featured in the 2011 film “Footloose,” indicating early recognition of their unique sound.

In 2014, the band signed with Republic Nashville, an imprint of Big Machine Label Group, a pivotal moment that led to their breakthrough. Their single, “Smoke,” released in 2014, achieved significant success by opening at number 28 on the Country Aircheck radio chart, marking the highest debut for a new act at that time. “Smoke” went on to reach number one on the Country Airplay chart, making A Thousand Horses the first country group since Zac Brown Band in 2008 to chart a number-one debut single. This success was followed by their full-length album, “Southernality,” released in June 2015, which further established their blend of country and rock.

Over the years, A Thousand Horses continued to evolve their sound and career strategy. They released the deluxe EP “Bridges” in 2017 with Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment, featuring a live version of “Smoke.” A significant turning point came with the launch of their own label, Highway Sound Records, which provided them with greater artistic control. This independence culminated in their 2022 album, “Broken Heartland.” In 2023, Zach Brown departed from the band, and the remaining members released a new album, “The Outside,” in 2024, continuing to blend Heartland Rock, Southern Boogie-Woogie, and amplified Country music.
