Jonathan Resto Quiñones, known professionally as Jon Z, was born on May 20, 1991. His career in music commenced in 2011 as part of the duo J-Tonez and Jon Z. During this period, he released his first single, “Nunca te veo,” followed by other tracks such as “El dinero me llama” and “Háblame de dinero.” In 2013, he began uploading freestyle videos to YouTube, which contributed to his growing visibility in the urban music scene. This early exposure led to a record deal with Boy Wonder (Chosen Few Emeralds Entertainment).
Jon Z’s debut album, “The Game Is About to Change,” was released in 2015, solidifying his unique style characterized by high-pitched raps and a fusion of reggaeton, trap, and hip-hop. A significant achievement came in 2017 with his eight-minute track, “Super Jon-Z (Residente Challenge),” where he surpassed rapper Residente’s record for the most words performed in a single hip-hop song, delivering 2,109 words. In 2018, he collaborated with his cousin, Ele a el Dominio, on the mixtape “Super Saiyan Flow,” which reached number 13 on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Albums chart. In 2019, he further expanded his reach by collaborating with Enrique Iglesias on a version of his song “Después Que Te Perdí,” which became his first US Latin hit. That same year, he earned nominations for Top New Male Generation and Urban Pop Song at the Premios Tu Música Urbano.
His discography includes studio albums such as “JonTrapVolta” (2017), “Voodoo” (with Baby Rasta, 2019), “Perdonen la Espera” (2020), “Proyecto Z” (2022), and “Real” (2024). He has also released numerous singles and featured on tracks with artists including Tyga, Yellow Claw, and Lil Toe. Jon Z has received nominations for “Song of the Year” Urbano / Trap in Premios Lo Nuestro 2020 and has collaborated with a variety of high-profile artists, achieving high positions on Billboard lists and earning RIAA certifications.
