Kadim Al-Saher began his celebrated musical journey by studying at the Institute of Music of Baghdad in 1982, following early experiences teaching music. He released his debut album, ‘Shajarat Al Zaytoon’ (Olive Tree), in 1984, which marked the beginning of a prolific recording career that would see him become one of Iraq’s most recognized musical exports. By 1988, Al-Saher gained wider recognition across Arab countries with his compositions ‘Ladghat El-Hayya’ and ‘Abart El-Shat.’ The onset of the Gulf War in 1990 led him to leave Iraq, yet he continued his work abroad. Throughout this period, Al-Saher consistently blended traditional Arabic melodies with various international musical styles, setting the stage for his global appeal.
In 2011, UNICEF appointed him a Goodwill Ambassador for Iraq, a role underscored by his release of the charity single ‘Bokra’ (Tomorrow). He served as a judge on ‘The Voice – Arabic version’ from 2012 to 2015 and debuted as a coach for MBC ‘The Voice Kids’ in 2016, where his team member Lynn Hayek won Season 1. Throughout his career, Al-Saher has performed in prestigious venues globally, including the Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House. In 2019, he officially changed his last name from Al Samarai to Al Sahir, marking a significant professional evolution.
His continued cultural prominence was highlighted in 2020 when he appeared on the cover of ‘Vogue Man Arabia.’ That year, he also performed his first virtual hybrid concert, adapting to new performance landscapes. Kadim Al-Saher most recently released his highly anticipated album ‘Ma’ah Al Hob’ in 2024, continuing to captivate audiences worldwide with his timeless artistry and profound musical storytelling.
