Elisabeth Corrin Maurus, known professionally as Lissie, was born on November 21, 1982, in Rock Island, Illinois. Her early life included involvement in theatre, notably playing the title role in the musical ‘Annie’ at the age of nine. During high school, she used music as a coping mechanism and later attended Colorado State University, where she opened for musicians visiting the city. While pursuing her studies, she collaborated with DJ Harry of SCI Fidelity Records on “All My Life,” a song that gained placement in television shows such as ‘House,’ ‘The O.C.,’ ‘Veronica Mars,’ and ‘Wildfire.’ After a semester in Paris, she dedicated herself fully to her music career, producing a four-song EP in 2007 that received airplay on KCRW’s ‘Morning Becomes Eclectic’.
Lissie’s career saw a significant turning point in 2008 when Lenny Kravitz invited her to open his Love Revolution Tour, following discovery of her MySpace page. That same year, her co-written song “The Longest Road” with DJ Morgan Page reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart, with its Deadmau5 remix earning a Grammy nomination. Her EP, ‘Why You Runnin”, produced by Bill Reynolds, was released in November 2009 on Fat Possum. This EP was recognized by Paste magazine among the “Eight Most Auspicious Musical Debuts of 2009.” She later signed with Sony Music UK’s Columbia Records, leading to her debut album, ‘Catching a Tiger,’ released in June 2010. The album’s single, “When I’m Alone,” was named iTunes UK’s song of the year 2010. Lissie’s cover of ‘Go Your Own Way’ by Fleetwood Mac gained widespread recognition in 2012, being featured in a Twinings advert and the film ‘Safe Haven’.
Her acting career includes a recurring role as Lizzie Poole in the TV series ‘Loudermilk’ (2020), where she portrayed a singer-songwriter. She also appeared as herself performing “Wild Wild West” in ‘Twin Peaks’ (2017) and had a cameo in the music video “Lissie: Night Moves” (2022). Lissie has released several studio albums including ‘Back to Forever’ (2013), ‘My Wild West’ (2016), ‘Castles’ (2018), and ‘Carving Canyons’ (2022).
