Lo Talker is an Athens, Georgia-based indie rock band formed in 2019 by guitarist and songwriter Andrew Shepard. As the former frontman of Roadkill Ghost Choir, Shepard had already gained experience and recognition in the music industry, having played at major festivals and even appeared on Late Night with David Letterman. However, he felt constrained by the expectations placed on him and wanted to break out of that mold, ultimately yielding Lo Talker as a fresh start toward freedom of creative expression.
The group, consisting of Shepard, vocalist and keyboardist Lydia Brambila, bassist and keyboardist Bass Hotel, and drummer Aaron Pitt, came together with a shared objective of crafting a sound that goes beyond the conventional limits of mainstream indie rock. Their music features unique sonic arrangements that combine various elements of rock, pop, and folk, culminating in a distinctive and captivating sound. The band members effortlessly create a dynamic atmosphere that can be simultaneously introspective and lively, with introspective lyricism that draws on themes of self-discovery, vulnerability, and growth.
Lo Talker’s debut album, “A Comedy of Errors,” slated for release on February 19, 2021, has already garnered significant anticipation and critical acclaim from music journalists and listeners alike. The album features ten tracks that paint a complex portrait of human emotion and experience, anchored by Shepard’s introspective lyricism and Brambila’s powerful vocals. Tracks like “Don’t Hide That Light Pt. II” and “No Champagne” showcase the band’s signature sound, with anthemic choruses and intricate guitar riffs. The album’s lead single, “Diamond Days,” also highlights the band’s versatility, with its vibrant and ebullient rhythm that has garnered attention on streaming platforms.
In summary, Lo Talker’s unique sound, paired with the band’s excellent songwriting, has established them as a rising group in the indie rock scene. Their forthcoming debut album is highly anticipated and expected to receive critical acclaim, signaling that Lo Talker’s fresh start is just the beginning of their much-deserved recognition on an international scale.
