About

Mabel Alabama-Pearl McVey was born on 19 February 1996, in Alhaurín el Grande, Málaga, Spain. Her early life was influenced by her parents, English music producer Cameron McVey and Swedish singer Neneh Cherry, both prominent figures in music. Growing up, Mabel developed an affinity for music and learned piano at age five, using creative expression to navigate early experiences with anxiety and bullying. The family relocated to Sweden when she was eight and later to Stockholm in 2004, where she attended Kulturama, a school specializing in aesthetic training. At 15, she enrolled in Rytmus Musikergymnasiet, a music high school in Stockholm, where she completed a three-year program focused on songwriting, production, and music theory. This educational background provided a foundation for her musical career, and upon graduation, she moved to London, drawn to its R&B music scene.

Mabel began her professional music career in 2015 with the release of her debut single “Know Me Better,” which quickly gained attention, leading to a recording contract with Universal. Her breakthrough came in 2017 with the single “Finders Keepers” featuring Kojo Funds, which reached the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart. This success was followed by her debut mixtape, “Ivy to Roses,” later that year. The period between 2017 and 2018 saw her touring commitments, including opening for Harry Styles during the European leg of his debut studio album tour and embarking on her own headline tours throughout the UK and Europe. In 2019, she received a Brit Award nomination for British Breakthrough Act and released her debut studio album, “High Expectations.” The album featured hit singles “Don’t Call Me Up” and “Mad Love,” which consistently charted well, with “Don’t Call Me Up” also appearing on the US Billboard Hot 100. She won the Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist in 2020.

Her second studio album, “About Last Night…”, released in 2022, continued her chart success, peaking at number two on the UK Albums Chart, becoming her highest-charting album to date. This album was supported by singles such as “Let Them Know.” Beyond her album releases, Mabel has engaged in various collaborations, including tracks with Not3s, Jax Jones, Rich the Kid, AJ Tracey, Clean Bandit, 24kGoldn, Joel Corry, and Black Sherif. She has also contributed to projects like Pokémon’s 25th-anniversary album and performed at notable events like Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball and BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. In 2024, she received a Brits Billion Award for achieving one billion UK streams, marking a significant milestone in her career. Her second mixtape, “Mabel,” was released in July 2025.
