Maeta is at the head of the next generation of r’n’b singers shaping the classic genre to reflect their times. She hails from Indianapolis but moved to Los Angeles in her late teens to build her musical brand. She only began uploading music to her social media channels in 2019, but within just a few years, she has signed with Roc Nation and dropped her debut label EP, 2021’s Habits, which has spawned multi-million-streamers such as ‘Teen Scene’ and ‘Bitch Don’t Be Mad’. She also has notable guest appearances in the bag, adding her vocal talents to the likes of Tone Stith’s beautiful ‘Something in the Water’ and RINI’s slinky slow jam, ‘Over Some Wine’.
Maeta began building her rep by sharing her stunning-yet-intimate vocal style through Soundcloud tracks and Instagram clips. Affirming her ambition by relocating to L.A., she released her debut EP, Do Not Disturb, in late 2019. Tracks such as ‘Babygirl’ won rave reviews, and Maeta began to build her rep by regularly posting covers of artists such as Drake, delivered in her inimitable style. Drawing on the influences of her formative years, such as Alicia Keys, Beyonce, and Kid Cudi, each track she dropped proved the growing hype.
After joining Roc Nation, Maeta made her breakthrough track, ‘Teen Scene’ with producer Kaytranada and rapper Buddy. At the time of writing, the track had been streamed 11.5 million times. And by the time you read this, that figure will be much higher. She is also increasingly prominent across the socials, with over 170,000 followers — although, again, that figure will soon be obsolete as her rep deservedly grows.
