Maisie Louise Collender Smith was born on July 9, 2001, in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, England. Her career in entertainment began at a young age after attending the Singer Stage School in Leigh-on-Sea. In 2006, she secured a role in the feature film “The Other Boleyn Girl,” portraying a young Elizabeth I, which premiered in February 2008. This early big-screen appearance was followed shortly by her most notable role, Tiffany Dean (later Butcher), in the BBC soap opera “EastEnders.” She joined the show on April 1, 2008, at the age of six, achieving widespread recognition and critical acclaim, including a British Soap Award for ‘Best Dramatic Performance From a Young Actor or Actress’ in 2009 and ‘Best Young Actor’ at the Inside Soap Awards in 2011 and 2013. Smith remained a regular cast member until 2014, with temporary returns in 2016 and a full-time return from 2018 to 2021, and a one-off appearance in March 2022.
Beyond her acting work, Smith expanded into music, releasing her debut single “Good Thing” in 2016 and a second single, “Where My Heart Is,” in 2017. These releases were accompanied by music videos and showcased her versatility as a performer. In 2020, she participated in the eighteenth series of “Strictly Come Dancing,” progressing to the final alongside her partner Gorka Márquez, where they finished in second place. This participation highlighted her dancing abilities to a broader audience.
Maisie Smith has continued to develop her career in various entertainment sectors. In May 2022, she made her musical theatre debut in “Strictly Ballroom: The Musical” as Fran, performing in venues such as the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, and on tour. Her subsequent ventures include competing in the fourth series of “Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins” in October 2022, where she was one of the finalists. She is also slated to join the cast of Jeff Wayne’s “Musical Version of The War of the Worlds” for its 2025 “The Spirit of Man” tour as Beth, the Parson’s Wife.
