Ireland Matt Skiba is a prominent figure in punk rock, known for his enduring role as the co-lead vocalist and guitarist of Alkaline Trio, and his seven-year tenure with Blink-182.

Matthew Thomas Skiba, born on February 24, 1976, in Chicago, Illinois, began his musical journey at an early age, learning piano and drums. After briefly studying graphic design at Columbia College Chicago, Skiba shifted his focus to guitar and co-founded the punk rock band Alkaline Trio in 1996. As the frontman, he solidified the band’s position in the punk rock genre, releasing ten full-length albums over more than two decades, beginning with “Goddamnit” in 1998. His lyrical contributions to Alkaline Trio frequently explore dark romantic themes, becoming a signature aspect of the band’s sound. Beyond Alkaline Trio, Skiba has also pursued various side projects, including Heavens and Matt Skiba and the Sekrets, further showcasing his diverse musical interests and capabilities.
A significant turning point in Skiba’s career occurred in 2015 when he joined Blink-182 as co-lead vocalist and guitarist, following Tom DeLonge’s departure. This new role saw him contribute to two of Blink-182’s albums, “California” (2016) and “Nine” (2019), performing for sold-out stadiums and festivals worldwide. His involvement with Blink-182 introduced his musical style to a broader audience, demonstrating his adaptability and impact within different band dynamics. After seven years, Skiba’s tenure with Blink-182 concluded in 2022 with DeLonge’s return. In 2023, Skiba also introduced new music with his band Lektron, returning to Asian Man Records, highlighting his continuous creative output.
Throughout his career, Skiba has been recognized not only for his primary band roles but also for his solo work and collaborations. He released his first solo effort, “Demos,” in 2010, followed by two full-length albums with Matt Skiba and the Sekrets, “Babylon” (2012) and “Kuts” (2015). He has also made guest appearances on tracks by notable artists such as New Found Glory, Rise Against, and Steve Aoki, demonstrating his versatility and influence across the alternative music scene. His commitment to music is further underscored by his touring, which has included an anthology tour with Alkaline Trio and performances at major festivals. Matt Skiba remains an active and influential musician, consistently contributing to the punk and alternative rock landscape.
