Baltimore-born Maysa Leak, professionally known as Maysa, is an award-winning singer who is celebrated for her unique and powerful vocal style. The singer/songwriter’s sound is influenced by R&B, Soul and Jazz, drawing inspiration from many prolific female vocalists from a young age. Maysa’s undeniable talent has seen her nominated for a Grammy and awarded the Soul Train Award. Maysa is widely known as singer of the popular British band Incognito.
Maysa’s luscious voice was heard by the legendary Stevie Wonder during a college performance, it was then that the singer left her hometown and headed for Hollywood, to sing with the famed artist. Maysa performed on several television shows before joining Incognito and making the journey across the pond in 1992, including The Tonight Show and Oprah. After appearing on several Incognito recordings, Maysa made her own mark on the music world when she released her self-titled album in 1995. To date, the singer has released fourteen albums, her most recent album being released in 2017 titled, Love is a Battlefield.
Many of Maysa’s releases have received critical acclaim; her 2008 album, Metamorphosis, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Top 100 chart. Furthermore, her 2010 album, Woman in Love, and her 2011 album, Motions of Love, also debuted at No. 1. Maysa has collaborated with some impressive names in jazz over the years, including Rick Braun and Rhythm Logic, to name a few.
