Californian rapper, singer and songwriter Saweetie was born Diamante Harper in Los Angeles. After graduating from university the newly named Saweetie began to focus on her music and came to the attention of fans thanks to her Instagram posts featuring her own songs and showcasing her skills as a rapper.
A remix of the Khia song My Neck, My Back (Lick It) transformed into her own song Icy Girl which she released onto Soundcloud in 2016. The single went platinum and the associated video has, to date, scored a massive 80m views on YouTube.
In 2018 Saweetie was named one of music service TIDAL’s Artists of The Week and was signed to major label Warner Brothers. Her latest single My Type has sold over 700k units in the US, reached No. 21 of the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 in the Rhythmic chart and has spawned a social media challenge of its own.
Now a businesswoman with her own successful clothing and accessories line Saweetie has also collaborated musically with the likes of Dua Lipa, Anne-Marie, David Guetta and Lil Wayne and appeared in a massively promoted TV advert for Rihanna’s booming cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty during the 2018 Superbowl.
