Militarie Gun was founded in 2020 by lead vocalist and primary songwriter Ian Shelton. The band originated as a solo project during the COVID-19 pandemic when Shelton’s Seattle hardcore band, Regional Justice Center, was on hiatus. During this period, he wrote and recorded the EP, *My Life Is Over*, released in September 2020 via Convulse Records. Following this initial release, Shelton expanded the project into a full band, recruiting guitarists Nick Cogan and William Acuña, bassist Max Epstein, and drummer Vince Nguyen. This formation marked the transition from a solo endeavor to a collaborative musical group.
In 2021, Militarie Gun released two additional EPs: *All Roads Lead to the Gun* in June and *All Roads Lead to the Gun II* in September, both through Alternatives Label. The band’s consistent output and developing sound led to a significant milestone in 2022 when they signed with Loma Vista Recordings. This partnership resulted in the reissue of their 2021 EPs as a combined album, *All Roads Lead to the Gun (Deluxe)*, in October 2022. This deluxe edition included new material, such as the single “Let Me Be Normal,” featuring MSPAINT and Woolworm. Throughout 2022 and into 2023, Militarie Gun embarked on extensive tours across North America, the United Kingdom, and Europe, performing with notable bands like Citizen, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Public Opinion, Fiddlehead, Touché Amoré, and White Reaper.
The band released their debut full-length album, *Life Under the Gun*, in June 2023 on Loma Vista. This album was supported by singles “Do It Faster,” “Very High,” and “Will Logic.” Following the album’s release, Militarie Gun maintained a rigorous touring schedule, supporting bands like Scowl and embarking on their own international headlining tours. In 2024, the band continued to release new music, including the EP *Life Under The Sun*, which featured acoustic reinterpretations and collaborations with artists such as Bully, Mannequin Pussy, and Manchester Orchestra. Militarie Gun also contributed to the soundtrack of the video game WWE 2K24 with their track “Gun Under The Gun (MFG)” and performed at major festivals including Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Reading/Leeds. In 2025, they announced their second studio album, *God Save the Gun*, preceded by the single “B A D I D E A”, and continued their extensive touring globally, participating in charitable initiatives and major public engagements.
