About

Ne Obliviscaris, a six-piece Australian progressive metal band from Melbourne, formed in April 2003 with harsh vocalist Marc “Xenoyr” Campbell and bassist Adam Cooper. The current lineup includes violinist and clean vocalist Tim Charles, guitarists Matt Klavins and Benjamin Baret, bassist Martino Garattoni, drummer Daniel Presland, and harsh vocalist James Dorton. The band is known for its distinctive blend of musical styles, incorporating elements of death, black, thrash, and melodic metal alongside classical, jazz, avant-garde, and flamenco. This genre-bending approach is evident in their demo, “The Aurora Veil” (2007), and subsequent studio albums.

The band’s debut full-length album, “Portal of I,” was released on May 7, 2012, after delays due to lineup changes and visa processing. The album received positive reviews for its intricate composition and musicianship, leading to their first overseas tour, including performances in Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Thailand. A track from “Portal of I,” “And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope,” was later included in the teaching curriculum at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music for compositional analysis. On November 7, 2014, Ne Obliviscaris released “Citadel,” which reached number 42 on the ARIA Albums Chart. This period marked a significant turning point with a successful crowdfunding campaign, raising over $86,000 AUD to finance a world tour, breaking the Australian record for crowdfunding in the process. The band embarked on tours across Asia, Europe, the UK, North America, and India, supporting acts like Fleshgod Apocalypse and Cradle of Filth.

Their third album, “Urn,” was released on October 27, 2017, and further solidified their reputation for complex arrangements. In 2018, the track “Intra Venus” from “Urn” won the Independent Music Award for Best Metal/Hardcore song. The band’s most recent album, “Exul,” released on March 24, 2023, was created under challenging circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a protracted recording process across multiple countries. Despite these difficulties, “Exul” showcases the band’s continued commitment to intricate songwriting and emotional depth. In January 2025, James Dorton officially became the band’s harsh vocalist, having served as a guest replacement for live performances since May 2023.
