Knife Party

Knife Party was established in 2011 by Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, both formerly members of the drum and bass band Pendulum. The duo initiated Knife Party as a secondary project, which subsequently became their primary focus due to its popular reception. Their debut EP, “100% No Modern Talking,” was released digitally in December 2011 through Warner Bros. Records. This release featured tracks like “Destroy Them with Lazers.” The title itself was a technical reference to sound synthesis. In May 2012, they released their second EP, “Rage Valley,” through EarStorm and Big Beat, a release which entered the Billboard 200 chart at position 75. The track “Bonfire” from this EP was later included in an episode of AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and in the video game “WWE 2K15.”

The duo continued their career progression with their third EP, “Haunted House,” released in May 2013, which reached number 37 on the Billboard 200 chart. By 2014, Knife Party released their debut album, “Abandon Ship,” which attained the second position on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and registered within the Top 40 of the UK pop charts. The album included singles such as “Resistance” and “Begin Again.” Their work has consistently showcased a blend of electronic music genres and production techniques, utilizing digital audio workstations like Nuendo and virtual instruments.

Over the years, Knife Party has collaborated with other artists and garnered industry recognition. They reached 23rd place on DJMag’s Top 100 DJs rankings in 2013. Further releases include the EPs “Trigger Warning” in 2015 and “Lost Souls” in 2019, which featured tracks like “PLUR Police” and “Death & Desire.” Their collaboration with Tom Morello, “Battle Sirens,” was released in 2016. In 2018, they launched “Knifecast,” a radio show format delivering mixes and discussions. Knife Party’s sustained activity in the electronic music scene, marked by consistent releases and collaborations, highlights their established presence.
