Peach Pit is an indie pop band that formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2016. The band’s members include Neil Smith on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Christopher Vanderkooy on lead guitar, Peter Wilton on bass, and Mikey Pascuzzi on drums. Their sound has been described by critics as sad pop and surf rock, characterized by soft-spoken vocals and guitar-driven melodies. Before the band’s widespread success, Neil Smith was involved with the folk band Dogwood and Dahlia. Other members held various jobs, with Smith and Peter Wilton working as Amazon delivery drivers, Christopher Vanderkooy at a local Vancouver brewery, and Mikey Pascuzzi as a carpenter.
The group’s musical journey began in 2014 when high school friends Neil Smith and Chris Vanderkooy started a musical project. Peter Wilton and Mikey Pascuzzi later joined them. Their debut EP, “Sweet FA,” was released in June 2016, which was followed by their first full-length album, “Being So Normal,” in September 2017, released under the Vancouver indie label Kingfisher Bluez. Following the success of “Being So Normal,” the band members left their previous jobs to focus on their music career. They embarked on tours across North America, Europe, and Asia between 2017 and 2018. During the “Being So Normal” album cycle, the band consistently wore the same clothes for live performances, which they had originally purchased for their first music video shoot.
Peach Pit has performed at various renowned music festivals, including SXSW, Osheaga, Bonnaroo, Shaky Knees Music Festival, CBC Music Festival, Capitol Hill Block Party, Lollapalooza, and Day In Day Out. They have also shared the stage with artists such as Mac DeMarco and Dayglow and opened for Two Door Cinema Club during their 2019 U.S. and Canada tour. Their discography includes the albums “You and Your Friends” (April 2020), “From 2 to 3” (March 2022), and “Magpie” (October 2024), all released under Columbia Records. The band’s single “Alrighty Aphrodite” charted on Billboard Canada Rock, peaking at #37, and “Magpie” appeared on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart, peaking at #23.
