Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Preservation Hall Jazz Band, formed in the early 1960s, is a renowned New Orleans jazz ensemble dedicated to preserving and performing traditional New Orleans jazz, captivating audiences globally. After bringing traditional New Orleans jazz to a global audience through its inaugural U.S. and international tours in 1963, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band went on to become a seminal force in American music, consistently captivating audiences worldwide. Established as the resident ensemble of Preservation Hall in New Orleans’ French Quarter, a venue managed by Allan and Sandra Jaffe, the band began showcasing legendary musicians such as pianist Sweet Emma Barrett and trumpeter Kid Thomas Valentine.

Demonstrating consistent critical acclaim, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has secured multiple ‘Best Traditional Jazz Band or Performer’ awards from OffBeat’s Best of the Beat Awards, including wins in 2000, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021-22, and 2023. Their album ‘St. Peter & 57th St.’ received OffBeat’s Best Traditional Jazz Album in 2012, followed by a 2015 award for Best Music Video for ‘That’s It!’ featuring Lyrics Born. In 2017, the band earned another OffBeat Best Traditional Jazz Album for ‘So It Is.’ Their musical journey and cultural impact were further explored in the documentary ‘A Tuba to Cuba,’ released in 2018.
