Raef Al Hasan Rafa first rose to prominence as the former drummer for the rock band Aurthohin, with whom he released ‘Dhrubok’ in 2003, and the metal band Cryptic Fate. As a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer, Rafa has made significant contributions to the Bangladeshi music scene. An active member of Severe Dementia, Kral, and The Joint Family, his early career saw releases including ‘Shesh’ and ‘Opekhay’ with Kral (2004), ‘Bimur Monushotter Udvason’ with Dripping Gore (2005), and ‘Ek janala akasher manchitro’ with Kral (2006). In 2007, he co-released ‘Howls of Murshidabad’ and ‘Credence of Fort William’ with Severe Dementia, solidifying his metal presence.
Beyond his performances, Rafa built a substantial reputation as a music producer and sound engineer. In 2008, he produced ‘Oprostut Juddho’ for Powersurge, followed by ‘Shey Ke’ for Topu in 2010. His production credits expanded significantly in 2011, encompassing ‘Ontorip’ for Sharmin, ‘Oporajeyo’ for Mechanix, and ‘A Time to Break the Silence’ for Air & Air. Rafa also produced Aurthohin’s 2011 album ‘Aushomapto-2’ and Cryptic Fate’s ‘Noy Maash’ in 2013.
Additional notable releases include ‘Shonga Shongjom’ with Kral (2010), ‘Shudder Thee Incensed Goddess’ with Severe Dementia (2010), and ‘Vision of a Minds Garden’ with The Joint Family (2011). More recently, Rafa produced ‘Bibhajon (OST)’ for IGNEEOUS in 2019. As founding member of his rock band, AvoidRafa, he continues to shape the music landscape. His ongoing impact was further highlighted by the release of ‘Noy Mash’ with Cryptic Fate in 2024.
