About

Rozalla Miller was born on March 18, 1964, in Ndola, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). She began her musical journey at a young age, performing in local clubs and events in her native country. By age 13, she was singing on a children’s television show. Her early career also included a move to Zimbabwe, where she fronted various R&B cover bands. During this period, she achieved significant local success with five number-one hits on Zimbabwe’s national chart. This early foundation provided her with performance experience before she transitioned to an international career.

In 1988, Rozalla moved to London, a crucial step in her career development. There, she collaborated with the production duo Band of Gypsies, consisting of Nigel Swanston and Tim Cox. Her first UK single, “Born to Luv Ya,” released in 1990, became a club hit. The following year, her career saw a major breakthrough with the release of “Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good),” which reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart. This track became a top 10 hit across many European countries and entered the Billboard Top 40 in the United States, solidifying her presence in the global dance music scene. The success of this single led to her debut album, “Everybody’s Free,” which peaked at number 20 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified silver. The album also produced two more UK chart hits: “Faith (In the Power of Love)” (number 11) and “Are You Ready to Fly” (number 14).

Throughout the 1990s, Rozalla continued to achieve musical milestones. In 1992, she toured with Michael Jackson, serving as the opening act for all his shows on the European leg of the Dangerous Tour. She had four UK top 40 hits in 1994 and 1995, including her rendition of “I Love Music,” featured as the theme song for the film Carlito’s Way. Her album “Look No Further” (1995) showcased more R&B and soul influences, differentiating it from her earlier dance-focused work. Subsequent releases included the 1996 remix of “Everybody’s Free,” which charted at number 30 in the UK, and her 1998 album “Coming Home,” which yielded the US club hit “Don’t Go Lose It Baby.” In 2009, a Global Deejays remix of “Everybody’s Free” reached number 7 in Australia, used as the theme for *So You Think You Can Dance*. More recently, in 2015, she returned to the top 10 of the Billboard Club Dance charts with “If You Say It Again,” and released the album “Turn On the Light” in February 2024.
