Saint Motel is an American indie pop band that formed in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of A. J. Jackson (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Aaron Sharp (lead guitar), Dak Lerdamornpong (bass), and Greg Erwin (drums). The group’s foundation began with Jackson and Sharp meeting during film school in Southern California. Lerdamornpong was later met at a sushi restaurant near campus, and Erwin attended a nearby school. From their inception, the band has emphasized the visual aspect of their music, evident in their 2009 debut EP, “ForPlay,” which featured a video for each of its six songs.
Their career progressed with the release of their first full-length album, “Voyeur,” in 2012, which successfully charted on alternative specialty radio. A significant turning point occurred with the 2014 EP “My Type,” released under Parlophone, whose title track achieved platinum certification in Italy and garnered international chart success. Following this, Saint Motel joined Elektra Records in December 2014. They gained broader exposure through performances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in 2015 and at major festivals like Coachella and KROQ Weenie Roast in the same year.
The band continued to push creative boundaries with their 2016 album, “Saintmotelevision,” becoming the first band to release an entire album with a dedicated virtual reality (VR) experience for each track. This technological innovation was further extended with the release of an augmented reality (AR) version of the album. Recent years have seen the band release the multi-part album “The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” (2019-2021) and inaugurate “Saint Motel Studios” in 2023, a concept for releasing music based on the classic Hollywood film studio system. They are set to release their fourth studio album, “Saint Motel & the Symphony in the Sky,” in February 2025, alongside a North American tour.
