Although with an already long and fruitful career, rapper Marquis Amonte King, better known as Shy Glizzy, has even bigger things to come. The Washington D.C. rapper started young – at the age of only 19 he begun releasing several mixtapes per year, each gaining more and more success. By his 4th mixtape Fly Money in 2012, Shy Glizzy had already begun collaborating with the likes of Jose Guapo and Trinidad James. This continued into collaborations with Migos, Yo Gotti and Starlito in his 6th mixtape Law 2. His 2014 7th mixtape was perhaps his most successful. Its hit single ‘Awwsome’ got him to 45 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart and attracted remixes by A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz. It also achieved 750 thousand streams within a week. And with this success, Shy kept charging ahead from success to success. With various other mixtapes being released in the years following, Shy’s first studio album came in 2018. Fully Loaded featured YoungBoy, Young Thug, Gunna and Rick Ross and peaked at 35 on Billboard’s Top 200 list. It sparked a nationwide tour with Gunna. His 2nd album, in 2019, Covered N’ Blood peaked at 156 on the Top 200. Shy Glizzy’s powerful lyrics and energetic sound has brought him to receiving millions of views on YouTube and well into the million of streams on Spotify and Soundcloud. Particular standouts include “White Girl” with over 80 million streams, and “Do you understand” with 25 million views on YouTube and 33 million streams on Spotify. His most recent ventures include his 2020 Young Jefe 3 album. Going from strength to strength in a lengthy and ever-growing career, Shy Glizzy’s successes until now will project him far into the future of rap and hip-hop.
