Hailing from California, Tower of Power are a horn-driven R&B group who have enjoyed celebrated success with various charismatic lead singers. The group rose to fame in the ‘70’s, drawing influences from soul, funk, pop and R&B and are widely recognised for a range of top hits including ‘So Very Hard To Go’, ‘You’re Still a Young Man’ and ‘What Is Hip’. Founded by talented saxophonist Emilio Castillo, Tower of Power played a strong part in popularising the brass sound within rock ‘n roll.
Tower of Power became an immensely popular backing outfit and have performed and toured with a host of prolific artists that includes Elton John and Aerosmith. The band have been fronted by many significant singers, notably Lenny Williams, who lead the ensemble through an era of great popularity. The band have landed an impressive eight hits on the Billboard 100 over the years, securing record deals with several big names such as San Francisco Records, Warner Bros Records, Epic Records and Columbia Records.
In 1973, the band released their third album and most successful project. The record received critical acclaim and was certified gold for sales exceeding 500,000 copies, reaching No 15 on the Billboard 100. Tower of Power have released nineteen studio albums to date, most recently 2018’s Soul Side of Town.
