Lebanese vocalist, songwriter, and musical talent Wael Kfoury is revered throughout the Arabic world and has been dubbed “The King of Romance” after his distinctively romantic style of songwriting. Born Michel Emile Kfoury, the singer began pursuing music as a teenager, training classically as a singer in college.
After completing his studies at Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik and the Conservatoire Libanais National Supérieur de Musique, Kfoury began working with a band, entering the competition for the hit TV talent show Studio el Fan and winning best male vocalist, earning himself his first recording contract. Kfoury’s debut single, “Ma Wa’adtak bi Njoum el Leyl,” secured a place in the Top Ten, and was swiftly followed by “Meen Habeebi Ana,” a duet with fellow Studio el Fan winner Nawal Al Zoghb. He produced three consecutive albums for Lebanon’s famed Musicbox label and won the award for Best Male Singer at the Lebanese equivalent of the Grammys.
Over the course of an illustrious 25-year career, Kfoury has recorded and released sixteen hit albums, confirming his status as an genuine icon of Lebanese music. His albums have consistently reigned high at the top of the charts, while his singles remain in the top spot for weeks or months at a time. In addition to his recording career, his public concerts, civic work, and on-screen appearances have further established his status as a national treasure. His latest record, the career-defining ‘W’, was released in 2017.
