White Lies

White Lies formed in October 2007 in Ealing, London, emerging from the remnants of their previous band, Fear of Flying. The core members consist of Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Charles Cave (bass guitar, backing vocals, keyboards, lyrics), and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). After carefully crafting new material they felt didn’t fit their earlier project, they delayed their first performance for five months to generate anticipation. This strategy paid off, as they secured a recording contract with Fiction Records just days after their debut gig in February 2008. Early singles like “Unfinished Business” and “Death” quickly gained traction, leading to significant exposure including a headline slot at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and a place on the 2009 NME Awards Tour. Their debut album, “To Lose My Life…”, released in January 2009, was a critical and commercial success, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart and solidifying their position as a prominent act in the indie rock scene. The band was also featured in multiple “ones to watch” polls at the start of 2009, including BBC’s ‘Sound of 2009′ and the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award.

Over the years, White Lies have consistently released new music, expanding their discography with several studio albums. Their second album, “Ritual”, was released in January 2011, followed by “Big TV” in August 2013, which was produced by Ed Buller. In 2016, they released their fourth album, “Friends” after signing with Infectious Music. Their fifth album, “Five”, was released in February 2019 via PIAS Recordings, continuing their exploration of post-punk revival and alternative rock sounds. Most recently, their sixth album, “As I Try Not to Fall Apart”, was released in February 2022, also under PIAS Recordings. They have also recently announced their seventh studio album, “Night Light”, slated for release in November 2025. Throughout their career, White Lies have toured extensively, playing sold-out shows across Europe, North America, Japan, and the UK, performing at major festivals such as Oxegen, T in the Park, Reading and Leeds, Coachella, and Glastonbury. They have also supported major acts like Coldplay and Kings of Leon on tour, showcasing their wide appeal and experience on large stages.

Their musical style, often compared to bands like Joy Division, Interpol, and Editors, combines dark, melodic themes with euphoric and uplifting undertones. While acknowledging these comparisons, the band members have emphasized their unique approach, drawing influences from diverse artists including Talking Heads and The Secret Machines. Their commitment to songwriting and performance has earned them accolades such as the MOJO Breakthrough Award and the Q Awards’ Best New Band. White Lies have proven their longevity and artistic development, maintaining a strong presence in the music industry for over a decade. Their ability to blend introspection with expansive soundscapes has resonated with a global audience, contributing to their enduring success and critical acclaim.
