Abigail Barlow

Abigail Barlow was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on November 10, 1998, and later moved to Birmingham, Alabama. Her early musical endeavors gained traction on online live-streaming platforms like YouNow as a teenager. She became a YoungArts Finalist in 2016 and an early creator on TikTok, where she developed her songwriting and performing skills for a growing audience. Her independent pop song “Heartbreak Hotel” achieved commercial success, peaking at number two on iTunes and accumulating over 6.5 million streams. Barlow’s presence on TikTok expanded, reaching over 2.4 million followers, which facilitated collaborations with established artists such as Meghan Trainor, with whom she co-wrote and produced “Phantom Feelings” for Barlow’s 2020 debut EP.

A significant milestone in Barlow’s career came with her collaboration with Emily Bear. Together, they conceived, wrote, produced, and engineered “The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical” concept album, which garnered widespread attention after its TikTok series. This project led to their historic win at the 2022 GRAMMY Awards for Best Musical Theater Album, making them the youngest composing team and the only women among the nominees to win in this category. Their work has been recognized by the Songwriters Hall of Fame and featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list. In 2024, Barlow and Bear continued their collaboration by writing original songs for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ theatrical feature “Moana 2.” This marked another milestone as the youngest and first female composing team to contribute original songs to a Disney animated feature, which grossed over $1 billion globally and set a record for Disney Animation trailer views.

Abigail Barlow continues to release solo music and perform both pop and musical theater showcases, maintaining a crossover presence in various entertainment communities. She advocates for fair compensation for songwriters, committing to working with female writers and producers, and offering a writer’s fee for all her solo releases. Her diverse interests, including female empowerment, fitness, and women in audio, have resulted in partnerships with several brands. She maintains an active presence in the Broadway, songwriting, and influencer sectors, positioning her uniquely within the entertainment industry.
