Yseult Marie Onguenet, born on August 19, 1994, in Tergnier, France, to Cameroonian parents, began her journey into music at a young age. Despite initial parental disapproval, she pursued her passion, leading her to audition for Nouvelle Star, a French singing reality competition. In February 2014, Yseult reached the final of the tenth season of Nouvelle Star, performing songs such as “Roar” and “Feeling Good.” Following her appearance on the show, she signed with Polydor Records, where she began work on her debut album.
Her debut album, “Yseult,” was released on January 5, 2015, featuring tracks like “La Vague.” The album peaked at no. 69 on the French album chart. After an underwhelming commercial performance and a writing seminar with the Black Eyed Peas in March 2017 while still with Polydor, Yseult decided to end her contract with the label later that year. This marked a turning pointtowards an independent career. In 2018, she established her own independent label, YYY, and relocated to Brussels, Belgium. That same year, she began modeling for campaigns, including ASOS.
Yseult continued to develop her independent musical identity, releasing extended plays such as “Rouge” and “Noir” in 2019, and “Brut” in 2020. Her single “Corps” from 2019 gained renewed attention after going viral on TikTok in late 2023. Beyond music, Yseult has significantly impacted the fashion world, becoming the first plus-sized model to walk for Balenciaga in 2023. She has also partnered with L’Oréal Paris, becoming a global ambassador in 2021. In 2024, Yseult performed a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony and released her album “Mental” in September.
