Alana de Freitas is an award-winning actress and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, known for her impactful contributions to the film industry. Her journey began as a teenage actor on the set of Michael Rymer’s “Queen of the Damned” in 2002, which ignited her passion for storytelling. In 2015, she transitioned into writing and producing, launching her career with the internet lifestyle program “LifeFunk TV” and subsequently producing three short films: “Broken,” “Life After Love,” and “End Games.”
In 2017, Alana wrote and produced the short film “Infidelity,” which garnered recognition as a finalist at the Los Angeles Cinefest. This success paved the way for her feature film debut, “Before the Dawn,” released in 2019, which she not only wrote and produced but also starred in. The film received accolades, including the ReFrame Stamp from Women in Film and the Sundance Institute, and won Best Feature Film at the American Film Awards.
Alana’s directorial debut came with the LGBTQ-themed short film “Nancy,” which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival and Best Screenplay at the International Independent Film Awards. Her production of the short film “I’m Not Here” is currently being developed into a feature, showcasing her commitment to evolving narratives in cinema.
In addition to her ongoing projects, including the horror feature “Stay Awake” and the documentary “#WhyIDidntReport,” Alana is a strong advocate for underrepresented communities in film. She was accepted into the 2020 Women in Film Mentoring Program, further solidifying her role as a leader in the industry.
