One of the world’s highest-ranking female figure skaters, Alena Kostornaia from Russia is a gold-medal-winning champion and world record holder.
Learning to skate from a young age, Kostornaia made her international junior skating debut at the ISU Junior Grand Prix series during the 2017-18 season. Following excellent performances throughout, Kostornaia went on to take home the silver medal at the finals in Nagoya. Her other successes during the same season include her silver medal win at the 2018 World Junior Championships in Sofia and a bronze at the Russian Figure Skating Championships following her senior debut that same year. It was in the 2018-19 season that Kostornaia took home her first gold medal title when she returned to the Junior Grand Prix series, going on to win gold at the finals in Vancouver. Her winning streak has since continued, and Kostornaia became the champion at the 2019 Internationaux de France, the NHK Trophy and the European Finlandia Trophy. Adding to her many career highlights Kostornaia also took home the gold at the 2019-20 Grand Prix Finals. Of her national achievements, Kostornaia won the bronze medal at the 2018 & 2019 Russian Nationals, followed by a silver medal win at the event during 2020.
Now undefeated since her senior international debut, Kostornaia went on to become the European Champion at the competition in 2020 and is currently ranked the sixth-highest female figure skater in the world. She also holds the world records for the highest short programme and total score.
