One of America’s best known television personalities and food show presenters, Alton Brown is the creator and host of popular Food Network show Good Eats. The show ran for an impressive 14 seasons, and he is also the host and main commentator on Iron Chef America, Cutthroat Kitchen and the host of miniseries Feasting on Waves and Feasting on Asphalt. Brown is a bestselling author who has written several books on food and cooking including I’m Just Here For the Food which won a James Beard award in 2004.
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Brown got his first break in media as a cinematographer for music videos including R.E.M.’s ‘The One I Love’. He then set out to produce his own show after becoming dissatisfied with the quality of cooking shows on American television at the time, and prepared by enrolling in the New England Culinary Institute.
In July 1988 the pilot for Good Eats first aired on PBS TV station WTTW in Chicago, and the show was picked up by Food Network 12 months later. The show went on to win a Peabody Award in 2006 and received a nomination for the Best TV Food Journalism Award by the James Beard Foundation in 2000. After running for 14 seasons, the show had a break before returning on Food Network in 2019 with new title Good Eats: The Return. Brown’s many other TV credits include The Next Food Network Star, Iron Chef America, Worst Cooks in America and Cutthroat Kitchen. The food expert has also toured with his popular live shows, which include a mix of food experimentation, talk show antics, comedy and live music.
