Ananda Lewis

Ananda Lewis was a trailblazing broadcast journalist, television host, and social activist, recognized for her impactful presence on BET and MTV, and later dedicated to advocating for health equity. After becoming the acclaimed host of BET’s ‘Teen Summit’ in 1996, Ananda Lewis quickly established herself as a powerful voice in broadcast journalism, tackling significant issues affecting teenagers. Her impactful work on the show earned her an NAACP Image Award in 1997 and included a notable interview with First Lady Hillary Clinton. Prior to this, Lewis gained early prominence appearing in Shai’s R&B music video ‘Baby, I’m Yours’ in 1993, and graduated cum laude from Howard University in 1995 with a degree in history, laying the foundation for her distinguished career.

In 2001, Lewis launched ‘The Ananda Lewis Show’, a nationally syndicated talk show that ran for two seasons, where she addressed critical social issues including domestic violence and breast cancer. Continuing her television presence, she became chief correspondent for ‘The Insider’ in 2004 and appeared on ABC’s ‘Celebrity Mole: Yucatán’ the same year. After a break from daily hosting, Lewis returned to television to host the revival of ‘While You Were Out’ on TLC in 2019, further cementing her versatility as a host. Leveraging her platform for public health advocacy, Lewis publicly announced her stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis in October 2020, diagnosed in 2019, to underscore the critical importance of early detection and regular mammograms.

She dedicated herself to raising awareness for preventative health measures, sharing her insights and experiences in an article for ‘Essence’ in 2025, advocating passionately for health equity.
