Anže Lanišek, born on April 20, 1996, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, began his journey in ski jumping at an early age. He represents SSK Mengeš. Lanišek made his World Cup debut in Planica on March 21, 2014, securing 34th place. His early career saw steady progression within the sport, participating in various categories from FIS Cup to Grand Prix events. He consistently ranked in the top 30 in World Cup standings during his formative years, building a foundation for future achievements. In 2012, Lanišek achieved a significant early milestone by becoming the Youth Olympic champion in the boys’ individual normal hill event.
Lanišek achieved his first World Cup individual victory on November 28, 2021, in Kuusamo, Finland. This marked a turning point, propelling him into a more prominent position within the global ski jumping circuit. He continued to build on this success, securing multiple individual World Cup wins in subsequent seasons, including victories in Ruka, Titisee-Neustadt, Engelberg, and Oslo during the 2022–23 season. He also contributed to gold and silver medals in team events at the 2023 and 2025 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, respectively, showcasing his integral role in the Slovenian team’s success.
His impressive performances have led to him consistently placing high in overall World Cup standings, with a notable third-place finish in the 2022–23 season. Lanišek’s personal best jump is 247.5 meters at Planica on March 30, 2025.
