Up-and-coming Hungarian triathlete Bence Bicsák is one to watch on the World Triathlon circuit. In 2019 he picked up his first World Series medal, clinching the bronze ahead of Javier Gomez – the five-time World Champion – at the 2019 ITU World Triathlon Yokohama. His gritty medal-winning performance put him on the World Triathlon map, and despite a serious injury later in the season he is now focussing on his training for the Tokyo Summer Olympic games in 2021, where he intends to climb the medal podium once again. The talented athlete is also a two-time U 23 bronze medallist, a former U23 European Champion and winner of the 2017 Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup. Bicsák is also a 13-time Hungarian Champion.
Bicsák first rose to prominence as a junior triathlete, his breakthrough performance coming at the 2016 ITU U23 World Championships in Cozumel where he bagged the bronze medal. The following year he won the Tiszaujvaros competition at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final, and in 2018 he won another bronze medal at the Gold Coast in the U23 men’s competition.
Bicsák’s bronze medal at the 2019 ITU World Triathlon Yokohama showed that he was a serious threat to the greatest triathletes in the world. In 2020 he became the first triathlete to be sponsored by Hungarian beer giant Pecsisor, and is now training hard for his ultimate goal – a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
