Bruno Fratus is a Brazilian swimmer and Olympic athlete. Fratus began his career at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, California, where he placed 4th in the 50-meter freestyle.
Following his debut on the international stage, Fratus competed in the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai, China, where he finished 5th overall, as well as the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. During the Pan American Games, Fratus won two gold medals and a silver. The following year he competed at the 2012 London Olympics, where he missed a bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle by .02 seconds. Fratus spent the next few years collecting medals at various championships: winning a gold medal at the 2014 South American Games in Santiago, a gold and a bronze at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championship on the Gold Coast, and a gold and a silver at the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games. He has also won three silvers, and a bronze at various World Aquatic Championships.
After finishing 6th place in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Fratus underwent shoulder surgery, and had to change his training routine. However, he bounced back, winning two gold medals at the 2019 Lima Pan American Games, where he broke a Pan American swimming record. As of 2020, Fratus has qualified for the postponed Tokyo Olympics and awaits the chance to add another medal to his trophy shelf.
