Catherine Sutherland

Catherine Jane Sutherland was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1974. Prior to her move to Los Angeles, she worked as a model and actress in Sydney. She attended the McDonald College of Performing Arts and Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Arts, as well as Ensemble Acting Studios, developing a foundation in performance. Her interests extend to singing, songwriting, dancing, piano, horse riding, scuba diving, hiking, aerobics, weight training, pilates, and spinning.

Sutherland gained international recognition when she joined the cast of “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” in 1995. She took on the role of Katherine ‘Kat’ Hillard, becoming the second Pink Power Ranger, replacing Amy Jo Johnson’s character, Kimberly Hart. She continued this role through “Power Rangers Zeo” (1996) and “Power Rangers Turbo” (1997), where she was the first Pink Turbo Ranger, and also starred in “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie” (1997). Her tenure as the Pink Ranger spanned several years, making her a significant figure in the franchise’s history. After leaving “Power Rangers Turbo” mid-season, she was replaced by Patricia Ja Lee.

Beyond the Power Rangers franchise, Sutherland appeared in the 2000 film “The Cell” as Anne Marie Vicksey, although her speaking part was cut from the theatrical release. She also provided voice-over work for minor characters in “Power Rangers Wild Force” (2002) and for the video game “Pitfall 3-D: Beyond the Jungle” (1997). In recent years, she reprised her role as Kat Hillard for the 25th-anniversary episode “Dimensions in Danger” in “Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel” (2018) and the 30th-anniversary special “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always” (2023) on Netflix. She also featured in the short film “The Order” (2016) alongside other Power Rangers alumni.
