Colin Stuart Montgomerie OBE, also known as ‘Monty’, is a professional Scottish golf player. He would go on to study at a Houston Baptist University in the United States. He represented the universities golf team and quickly rose to become their top player. From here he would go on to win three amateur tournaments before eventually turning professional in 1988. During his first year on the Professional European Tour he was named as ‘Rookie of the year’.
It would only take him a year to win his first event on the tour with that being the Portuguese Open TPC, of which he would win by a breakaway 11 shots. Two years later in 1991 he would make his first appearance in the Ryder Cup representing Europe. In 1994, he would make his way into the global top 10 rankings where he would spend nearly a year and a half, the highest he would make it in the ranking was second. Monty has won a total of 31 European Tour Events. This makes him fourth on the list of golfers with the most victories on the European Tour. Three of these wins would come one after the other at the Volvo PGA championships that are held at the famous Wentworth Golf Club between the years of 1998 and 2000.
