Dagmara “Daga” Wozniak is an Olympic saber fencer from the United States. Wozniak was a substitute for the United States Olympic team in the women’s saber competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics, before becoming a competitor at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. She was ranked as one of the top ten saber fencers in the world as of the summer of 2016.
Wozniak began fencing at the Polish American Fencing School (PAFS) in Linden, New Jersey, when she was nine years old. Yury Gelman, her coach, has been training her at the Manhattan Fencing Center since high school. At the Junior World Fencing Championships, Wozniack earned three team medals. She became a full member of the United States squad at the 2012 Olympic Games, where she finished eighth after losing in the quarterfinals against Russia’s Sofiya Velikaya by a score of 15–13. Wozniak had fenced with a partially torn Achilles tendon, it was later revealed.
Wozniak earned bronze medals in the team competition at the 2011 World Fencing Championships and the 2012 and 2013 Senior World Championships. She won a gold medal with Team USA in 2014. She competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro for the United States. The squad took third place in the competition. Wozniak qualified to compete for the United States at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. She keeps up with her fans on Instagram, where she boasts over 13,000 followers.
