Federal Ammunition sponsors Derrick Mein, providing him with ammunition for training and competitions. He was noted for shining at the 2025 Shotgun Nationals, where he won Trap Gold.

Derrick Mein was born on August 26, 1985, in Girard, Kansas. He began his journey in competitive shooting at the age of eight, participating in sporting clays alongside his father in a small local league in Paola, KS. This early exposure fostered his talent and interest in various shooting disciplines, including sporting clays, skeet, trap, international trap, and helice. Mein pursued higher education at Kansas State University, earning a degree in Animal Science and Industry in 2008. During his college years, he also attended Lindenwood University on a shooting sports scholarship, where he competed in the Junior Olympics and secured a National Champion title. Despite some periods of reduced training during his time at K-State, Mein’s dedication to the sport persisted.
Mein’s career progression saw him emerge as a prominent figure in international shooting. He became a two-time Olympian, representing the United States at the Tokyo 2020 (held in 2021) and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. At the Tokyo Olympics, he placed 24th in Men’s Trap and 13th in Mixed Team Trap. During the Paris 2024 Olympics, he achieved a 5th place finish in Men’s Trap. His World Championships experience includes a gold medal in Men’s Trap in 2022 and a silver medal in Mixed Team Trap in 2023. These achievements highlight his consistent performance at the highest levels of the sport.
His commitment extends beyond competition; Mein aims to continue competing through the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, with a goal of winning a medal. He emphasizes his focus on the process and mental preparation required for elite performance. Mein’s journey from a small Kansas town to the Olympic stage demonstrates his sustained effort and passion for sport shooting.
