Nicholas Theodore Nemeth, known professionally as Dolph Ziggler, was born on July 27, 1980, in Cleveland, Ohio. Before his professional wrestling career, Nemeth was an accomplished amateur wrestler at Kent State University, where he set a record for career wins. He majored in political science with a pre-law minor, and was accepted into law school before pursuing wrestling in 2004. He signed a developmental contract with WWE, initially wrestling as Nick Nemeth in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).
His WWE main roster debut in 2005 saw him in a short-lived role as a caddie for Kerwin White. After returning to developmental, he became ‘Nicky’ as part of The Spirit Squad, a cheerleading-themed faction that won the World Tag Team Championship in 2006. After the Spirit Squad disbanded, Nemeth returned to developmental, refining his skills in OVW and Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). During his time in FCW, he held the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship twice. He was repackaged as Dolph Ziggler in September 2008, adopting a bleached-blonde, self-absorbed persona that would define much of his career.
Ziggler’s tenure in WWE was marked by significant singles and tag team success. He is a two-time World Heavyweight Champion, a six-time Intercontinental Champion, and a two-time United States Champion. He also held the Raw Tag Team Championship twice and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship once. A notable career highlight includes winning the Money in the Bank ladder match in 2012, which he successfully cashed in to win his second World Heavyweight Championship. After 19 years with WWE, Nemeth was released in September 2023. He transitioned to the independent circuit, and in 2024, signed with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) and made appearances in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), winning the AAA Mega Championship, the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship, and the TNA World Championship, further solidifying his status as a multi-promotional champion. In 2025, he also won the TNA World Tag Team Championship with his brother, Ryan Nemeth.
