Dominic Anthony Sherwood was born on February 6, 1990, in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. He pursued his education in drama and theatre studies at schools in Maidstone and Sevenoaks before embarking on international work experience, beginning with six months in Kenya. Upon his return, he settled in London, where he began his acting career. His initial television appearance was in 2010 as Jack Simmons in the third season of “The Cut.” This was followed by a guest role in “Sadie J” in 2011 and a small part as a young Mick Jagger in the 2012 drama film “Not Fade Away.”
Sherwood’s career gained momentum with his role as Christian Ozera in the 2014 satirical horror film “Vampire Academy.” In February 2015, he appeared in Taylor Swift’s music video for her single “Style.” A significant turning point came in April 2015 when he was cast as Jace Herondale in the Freeform fantasy drama series “Shadowhunters,” an adaptation of “The Mortal Instruments” book series. This role further elevated his public profile. Concurrently, he also featured in the thriller film “Billionaire Ransom” (2016) and the horror-thriller “Don’t Sleep” (2017).
His career progression continued with a recurring role as Kurt in the dark fantasy TV series “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” in 2020. In 2021, it was announced he would star in “Eraser: Reborn,” a reboot released in March 2022. Sherwood also took on a main role as Jeff Murphy in the Netflix legal drama “Partner Track,” which premiered in 2022. Beyond acting, he expanded into podcasting, co-hosting a “Shadowhunters” rewatch podcast, “Return to the Shadows,” with Katherine McNamara, starting in April 2022.
