Drachenlord

Rainer Winkler, born on August 2, 1989, in Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany, became widely known under his pseudonym Drachenlord. His online presence began with the creation of his YouTube channel on August 10, 2011. Initially, Winkler uploaded content such as Let’s Plays and videos related to metal music, notably his first video on August 11, 2011, which showcased headbanging. Over time, his channel gained considerable subscribers, reaching over 200,000 before its eventual deletion and accumulating more than 18 million views on his publicly accessible videos by March 2022. He also utilized other platforms, including YouNow, for regular livestreams. His online activities, however, attracted a large group of “haters,” forming an online community that engaged in extensive cyber-mobbing, leading to recurring conflicts and public scrutiny.

The dynamic between Drachenlord and his “hater” community escalated significantly after he publicly disclosed his address in February 2014, in a video challenging his detractors. This act initiated a period marked by frequent disturbances at his residence in Altschauerberg, including property damage and trespassing, which often necessitated police intervention—sometimes multiple times daily. These persistent issues led to numerous legal proceedings, with both Winkler and members of the hater community facing convictions. In October 2021, Winkler was convicted on various charges, including assault, insult, libel, and property damage, and sentenced to two years in prison, though this was later reduced to a one-year suspended sentence and a fine upon appeal, with the court acknowledging the severe emotional stress he endured from the ongoing harassment. YouTube eventually deleted his primary channel in August 2022.

Following the sale of his property to the municipality in October 2021 and his departure from Altschauerberg in February 2022, his former home was demolished in March 2022, with remaining structures removed in September 2025. Despite relocating, Winkler continued to face harassment in his new residences, indicating the persistent and widespread nature of the “cyber-mobbing” directed at him. The “Drachenlord phenomenon” has been subject to extensive media coverage, documentaries, and even fictional adaptations, highlighting its impact on legal precedent regarding cyber-mobbing and the public’s understanding of online harassment.
