Dragonforce first achieved widespread recognition with their debut single ‘Valley of the Damned,’ which charted as the most downloaded song on MP3.com for two weeks. The band, initially established as DragonHeart in 1999 by guitarists Sam Totman and Herman Li with singer ZP Theart, officially became DragonForce in 2002. Following this, they signed with Noise Records in 2002 and released their debut full-length album, ‘Valley of the Damned,’ in 2003. They quickly followed this with their second album, ‘Sonic Firestorm,’ released in 2004, which introduced new members Adrian Lambert on bass and Dave Mackintosh on drums.
In 2015, they co-wrote the track ‘Road of Resistance’ for Babymetal and performed alongside them at the Download Festival, with members serving as Babymetal’s backing band at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods that same year. The band continued a prolific output, releasing the compilation ‘Killer Elite: the Hits, the Highs, the Vids’ in 2016, followed by ‘Reaching into Infinity’ in 2017, and a remastered version of their 2012 album, ‘Re-Powered Within,’ in 2018. Their eighth studio album, ‘Extreme Power Metal,’ was released in 2019. Alicia Vigil joined as touring bassist in 2020, becoming a full-time member in 2022.
In 2023, DragonForce secured a worldwide contract with Napalm Records. Under this new deal, they released their ninth studio album, ‘Warp Speed Warriors,’ in March 2024. Also in 2024, DragonForce collaborated with the mobile game ‘Brawl Stars’ by releasing the single ‘A Draco Tale’ to promote a new character, further expanding their reach into interactive entertainment.
