Known across the world as Hermione Granger, Emma Watson is an internationally renowned actress and activist.
Despite having only acted in school plays before, Watson was cast in 1999 for a brand new children’s fantasy film called Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The film would go on to spawn one of the biggest film franchises in history, becoming one of the best known and well loved series across the world. Watson was catapulted to fame, attending film premieres, industry parties, casting sessions and global film sets and achieving worldwide recognition thanks to the role. She became a role model for young women around the world, with the smart and assertive Hermione becoming an inspiration for girls to follow their dreams fearlessly. She went on to star in all eight of the films in the series, becoming a household name and winning several awards. Since the success of the Harry Potter series, Watson has continued to star in films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, Regression and Beauty and the Beast, as well as modelling in Vogue, Cosmopolitan and People magazines.
Outside of acting, Watson has become known as an activist and advocate for numerous causes. She is a UN Women Goodwill ambassador and launched the UN HeForShe campaign in 2014, having also made sizeable donations to the Time’s Up campaign and started feminist book club Our Shared Shelf. This inspirational actress and public figure continues to encourage equality and fight for justice as a part of global initiatives.
