About

Eugenio Derbez González was born on September 2, 1961, in Mexico City. He displayed an early interest in performance, securing his first roles as an extra in soap operas at the age of twelve. Derbez pursued formal training, earning a degree in Film Directing from the Mexican Institute of Cinematography and Theater, alongside a degree in Acting from Televisa’s Acting School. His early career saw him as a regular on the Mexican television show “Cachún cachún ra ra!” in the early 1980s and participating in the children’s program “En Familia con Chabelo.” His comedic talent gained wider recognition with a recurring role in the sketch comedy show “Anabel” starting in 1988.

Derbez built a substantial career in Mexican television, launching and starring in popular shows such as “Al Derecho y al Derbez” (1992), “XHDRBZ” (1999), and “La Familia P.Luche” (2002-2012). The latter became one of Univision’s longest-running and most successful sitcoms. His influence extended to directing with the telenovela “No Tengo Madre” in 1997. In the 2010s, Derbez successfully transitioned to English-language cinema, starring in Adam Sandler’s “Jack and Jill” (2011) and “Girl In Progress.” His directorial and starring role in “Instructions Not Included” (2013) marked a significant milestone, becoming the most successful Spanish-language film in the U.S. and worldwide, grossing over $100 million.

His career continued with roles in “How to Be a Latin Lover” (2017) alongside Salma Hayek, and “Overboard” (2018) with Anna Faris and Eva Longoria. Notably, Derbez starred in the Academy Award-winning Apple TV+ film “CODA” (2021), for which he received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. In 2016, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Through his production company, 3Pas Studios, co-founded with Ben Odell, Derbez develops and produces content for platforms like Lionsgate, Pantelion Films, and NBC Universal, furtherSolidifying his status as a prominent figure in global entertainment.
