Two-time Olympic gold medalist Faith Kipyegon is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the 1500 metres. She won gold in the 1500 metres at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
As a junior athlete, Kipyegon won medals at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics and 2010 African Junior Athletics Championships. She became African senior champion in the 1500m at the 2012 African Championships in Athletics. The following year she made her global debut at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics, reaching the final where she ran a personal best of 4:02.21 to place ninth overall. She won another medal on the continental stage at the 2014 African Championships, this time taking bronze. She was selected to run at the inaugural IAAF Continental Cup that year and helped the Africa team to second place in the 4×1500 metres relay.
Kipyegon enjoyed a breakthrough 2015 season: she won at the 2015 Prefontaine Classic with a world-leading time of 3:59.04 minutes and followed this up with victories on the Diamond League circuit in Oslo and Paris. She ran a personal best of 3:56.41 minutes to win her first global medal, a bronze, at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing. In 2016, she defended her Prefontaine Classic title in another world-leading time and went on to win Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro. With her winning performance of 3:52.96 at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in July 2022, Kipyegon became the first female athlete to win four world 1500 m championships.
