Gaël Fickou was born on March 26, 1994, in La Seyne-sur-Mer, France. He began his senior club career with Toulouse, making his Heineken Cup debut on October 14, 2012. During his six seasons with Toulouse from 2012 to 2018, he played in 135 matches, scoring 198 points. His ability on the field earned him comparisons to English rugby legend Jeremy Guscott, noted for his agile movement, balance, and pace. In 2014, France and Toulouse teammate Maxime Médard described Fickou as one of the top ten centres globally, predicting he would soon reach the top position, likening him to Sonny Bill Williams for his height, athleticism, technical skill, and game sense.
Fickou transitioned to Stade Français for the 2018–2019 season, where he played 32 matches and contributed 65 points over three seasons. His career progression led him to join Top 14 rivals Racing 92 in March 2021, ahead of the 2021–22 season. Since joining Racing 92, he has made 85 appearances, scoring 102 points.
