Rick J. Hillier is a distinguished retired Canadian Forces general whose career is marked by significant leadership roles and impactful contributions to military operations and public service. As the Chief of the Defence Staff from February 2005 to July 2008, Hillier was a vocal advocate for increased military funding, emphasizing the need for adequate resources to support the Canadian Forces. His straightforward communication style and commitment to frontline capabilities earned him respect both within the military and among the public.
Prior to his appointment as Chief of Defence Staff, Hillier served as the Chief of the Land Staff, where he commanded Land Force Command and led Canadian troops during critical missions, including Operation Recuperation in response to the devastating ice storm in 1998.
