Brazilian mixed martial artist Herbert Burns competes in the Featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and has been professional since 2012.
Burns grew up surrounded by martial arts and combat fighting, with his father being a karate coach and both of his older brothers also being jiu-jitsu fighters. He won a state championship in karate in the first three years of his training, eventually moving into the sport of Brazilian jiu-jitsu as a teenager. In 2012 the determined fighter made his professional debut and after winning his first ever bout he was snapped up by the ONE Championship in 2013. He won his first five matches with the promotion, travelling all over Asia and the UAE to compete in high profile bouts. In 2018 he spent a brief stint with Titan Fighting Championships, competing in two matches with the promotion before he was spotted by the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, Dana White. He was invited as a contestant onto Dana White’s Contender Series which helped to raise his profile, especially when he won the fight in the first round. The win meant Burns was offered a contract with the UFC, and he has stayed with the promotion ever since.
Since winning Performance of the Night in his first fight with the UFC, Burns career has been going from strength to strength and he is now at the top of his game.
